Eligibility

A candidate for being eligible for admission to the three year degree course leading to the Bachelor of Commerce must have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (Std. XII) examination conducted by the different Divisional Boards of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.

OR

Must have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (Std. XII) examination with vocational subjects/minimum competency based vocational course conducted by the different Divisional Boards of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.

OR

Must have passed an examination of another University or Body recognized as equivalent to Higher Secondary School Certificate (Std. XII) Examination.

Department of Accountancy & Financial Management organized Certificate Course in Tally ERP 9 with GST (Fifty Hours Certificate Course) in association with SHALMALI INFOTECH for the students who wants to work in accountancy field.

Highlights-87 students accompanied by 2 staff members visited the BSE. The Seminar on “Introduction to Financial Markets” was very informative. The Key Highlights of the Session focused on the working of online trading systems and how to initiate a rewarding Career life in Financial Markets Industry. Following this was the visit to the iconic International Convention Hall which dates back to the floor trading era of Capital. Lastly students were also encouraged to take up career as BSE officers.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT REPORT

Every year college organizes Industrial visit for B.Com students so as to make them understand about the real business world. So this year also college has organized IV for Bcom students at CHANDIGARH-AMRITSAR from 6th September 218-12th September 2018.The reason behind selecting this venue as our IV, as we wanted our students to take some practical view of Punjab state, their style of doing business and also understanding the culture of Punjab as an entrepreneur.

Students visited INTER SOLAR industries where they have seen the process of manufacturing solar heater. Students have got insights about the working styles of the organization, production process and many more. Students have also visited various sites and have tried to understand the culture, tradition in terms of business.

Expert Lecture on Corporate Governance

Accountancy Association was inaugurated on 7th August 2018 by Dr.Varadraj B.Bapat, Professor, SJM School of Management, IIT Mumbai, Principal Dr.Sridhara Shetty and association members by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Accountancy Department Incharge Prof.Sandesha Shetty introduced the guest to the audience. Resource person Dr.Varadraj B. Bapat has enriched the students by conducting an expert lecture on Corporate Governance. Corporate Governance is the system of rules, practices and processes by which a firm is directed and controlled. Corporate governance essentially involves balancing the interests of a company's many stakeholders, such as shareholders, management, customers, suppliers, financiers, government and the community.

This session was concluded by vote of thanks by Prof. Virendra Singh.


Bridge Course in Basic Accountancy

To teach basic accounts for those who are from non-commerce background

Department of Accountancy & Financial Management conducted Bridge Course in Basic Accountancy for the students who are from other streams or those who are having problem in basic accountancy.

Total Six students enrolled for this course. The Bridge course was conducted between 06/08/2018 to 31/08/2018. All lectures were taken by Accounts Department faculties. In the Bridge Course we taught the following basic topics of Accountancy –

PTA Meet Report

S.M.Shetty College of Science, Commerce & Management Studies, Powai had organised a Parent-teacher meeting for TYBcom students. The main purpose of the meet was to create a common platform, where teacher and parents come together to enrich the student’s educational experiences and discuss variety of issues, regarding all round development of students. The meeting was organised under the guidance of Prof.Sandesha Shetty Co-ordinator of B.Com Department.

Financial Market Workshop

Financial Market Workshop was organized by Department of Accountancy & Financial Management. This workshop was organized for gaining extra knowledge and information of finance, share market, the stock exchange dealings etc. The workshop was held for 6 days from 30th July to 4th August 2018 under the guidance of Prof. Hemal Shah, Trainer and Mr. Sharad Pachisiya, Vice President of Edelweiss.

On the last day of the lecture, exam was taken to analyze the performance of the students.


Visit to RBI

The Department of Economics had organized a one day visit to RBI museum and banking hall on 24th July for third year students of B.Com. The students were taken to RBI’s office at CST along with two teachers Prof. PoojaPandey and Prof.SandeshaShetty. The students reached the venue by 11:00 am and visited the lecture hall where they had watched a documentary on the evolution of currency in India. They also attended a lecture delivered by Mr.Radhakrishnan who educated students on the functioning of the RBI.

The students visited the RBI museum where they saw the currency in different form in India and various other forms of money used since ages in India. The students also saw the determination of exchange rate (live) which was displayed on an electronic board.

Later, the students also visited the RBI’s banking hall where they saw minting of the coins. The students also learnt the various techniques of identifying the real currency which is in circulation. They also exchanged the coins in the banking hall.

The visit was truly very informative and educative wherein the students made utmost utilization of the opportunity to sharpen their analytical skills.


Session on ‘Filing of Income Tax Return’

To explain the process of ITR Filing ,Deductions under section 80C, 80D, 80G and 80 TTA, Linking of Aadhar and PAN number and the process of e-verification.

Department of Accountancy & Financial Management has conducted ITR Filing session on 23rd July, 2018. Prof. Komal Tiwari welcomed the gathering and gave the login instructions to the teachers of both the sections (Degree College and Junior College).

CA. Zainab Rangwala explained the process of filing of return (Form ITR 1), later on both the teachers explained the Deductions under section 80C, 80D, 80G and 80 TTA, Linking of Aadhar and PAN number and the process of e-verification.

Session was attended by total of 42 teachers. Teachers of both the sections found it very helpful for understanding the process of filing of return


FY.B.COM Orientation

To make the parents and students aware of the academic aspects of the course, the rules and regulations of the institute.

Bunts Sangha’s S.M.Shetty College of Science, Commerce and Management Studies organized an orientation programme for the newly admitted BAF, BBI and BCOM students at the institute premises on 20th July 2018. The major objective of the programme was to make the parents and students aware of the academic aspects of the course, the rules and regulations of the institute and ensuring parental participation in monitoring the performance and progress of the students.

The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by Principal Dr. Sridhara Shetty, and respective Coordinators.

Principal Dr. Sridhara Shetty briefed the students about the rules and regulations of the institute and requested the students and parents to understand and abide by the rules and norms of the college.

BCOM Coordinator Prof. Sandesha Shetty and BAF & BBI Coordinator Prof. Sahana Raviprasad gave necessary information about the academic design of the first year BCOM, BAF & BBI course and the university and college rules & regulations regarding academics matters.

Librarian Ms. Smitha Ravindran briefed students about the rules and regulations of the library, the functioning of the library, the competitions which are held by them and what all books are available in the library.

Physical Director Ms. Rohini Shetty briefed students about various kinds of sports held in our college. Lastly, a vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Darpana Manjarekar.

To enlighten the students with the actual pattern to study, it includes reading, writing, understanding & internalizing.

On 10th July 2018 & 18th July 2018, Principal Dr. Sridhara Shetty addressed TYB.Com& SYB.Com regarding the way to succeed in life. Every student has a different pattern to study, but Principal has enlightened the students with the actual pattern to study, it includes reading, writing, understanding & internalizing.

Later, discussing about the job prospectus, he made the students to realize that "there is no unemployment unless you are employed". He explained the importance of 3 P's i.e. planned reading, Purposeful reading & Profitable reading. He shared an example of his student who already prepared 25 days prior of her examination thus saying how proper planning and preparing for exam will help the students for their exam.

Concluding on how to prepare for the exam, he gave the formula of success i.e. Success = (Capability x Willingness x Opportunity) Capability includes Knowledge +Skills. He explained that the multiplication sign in the formula of success is that if you lack any one of the above quality you will decrease the level of success.

Departmental Fest Finmon-2019

Objective of the fest was to assist students in exhibiting their knowledge and capabilities in the areas pertaining to accountancy through an enjoyable competitive experience.

Department of Accountancy & Financial Management organized an inter-collegiate fest “FINMON” on February 23rd, 2019 with the objective to provide platform for the students to showcase their talent with a competitive spirit. There were 2 events viz. debate and mock stock.

Total 6 teams had participated in ‘Debate’ and it was divided into 3 rounds. The first round was a group discussion. One member from each team was asked to come forward for group discussion. Out of 6 teams, 4 teams qualified for the second round. In this round, group of 2 teams were made to faceoff and had a debate and best two teams went to final round.

Conducted by: Ms.Sushreetha

Aim: To orient the students to counselling, counselling centre services, rapport building, communication, personality development, introduction to concept of positive mental health and mental health soldiers.

  • Synopsis:

The session started with the introduction of their section counsellor, counselling team and their respective roles. There was an interactive discussion on vision for life, their happy activities and idea of fun and joy – various ideas as pointed by students were discussed and connected to the post ice breaker activity discussion.

The students were then engaged in an ice breaker activity - ‘The Human Bingo’ There was an interactive discussion on comfort zones, activities supporting towards positive mental health and habits that can cause hindrance to the same.

The students came out for various performances based on the names revealed during the ice breaker. These performances were truly encouraged and enjoyed by students performing and watching. This was followed by a relaxation session, where they spent some time truly with themselves, and returned rejuvenated. The concept of mental health soldiers was introduced.

Feedback: The students thoroughly enjoyed the session. They had fun playing the games, and felt extremely refreshed after the session.


Seminar on “Overview of Drugs & Their Harmful Effects”

26 June which is observed as “International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking”, a seminar was conducted by Accountancy Association of Bunts Sangha’s S.M.Shetty College Science, Commerce & Management Studies, Powai. Mr. Kulbhushan Singh, an Intelligence officer of Narcotics Control Bureau (Mumbai Zonal Unit) empowered the students about the ‘Overview of Drugs & Their Harmful Effects.’

The seminar helped the students to know how rapidly the drug intakes are taking place in the today’s youth without knowing its adverse effect. A whole list of harmful effects were discussed, whether it physical harm, occupational / financial harm, social harm, psychological harm or legal harm. This interactive session helped the students not only to know about the drug abusing and illicit trafficking but also how firm they should be to say no to drugs even when forced by their nearest or dearest ones. The seminar empowered the youth about the increasing drugs intake and how they affect the whole system which has to be stopped by saying “NO TO DRUGS”.
